The Room Next Door

In this intimate drama about growing old, living and dying, the power of friendship is central.

Ingrid (Julianne Moore) is a successful writer who discovers that an old friend Martha (Tilda Swinton) is ill. They had lost touch, but the two find each other again immediately when they think back to the life they once shared. When Martha's health deteriorates, she asks Ingrid to support her in her self-chosen end. They leave New York and move to a beautiful villa just outside the city. Surrounded by nature and with their shared passion for art and a former love (John Turturro), they celebrate life while they can.

The Room Next Door premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the prestigious Golden Lion for Best Film. The film is based on the book What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez.
