Based on the true story of the 89-year-old man who escaped from his care home to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy.
In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made headlines worldwide with his 'great escape' from the nursing home where he lives. His great wish is to join his fellow war veterans on the beach of Normandy one more time to commemorate their fallen comrades. The Great Escaper not only tells the inspiring story of a man trying to come to terms with his lasting war trauma. Bernie's adventure, which spanned just 48 hours, also celebrates the enduring love in his 60-year marriage to Rene (Glenda Jackson) who wonderfully supports her husband in his adventure.
