Teacher Li became a global phenomenon in 2022 when he became a conduit for controversial news from China while living in Italy. By tirelessly sharing the reports on Twitter, he sparked one of the largest democratic protests in China.
In this interactive VR film, you become part of that online revolution. Messages float around you like paper aeroplanes. They unfold and turn into videos made during the coronavirus lockdowns of 2022. Some measures are so absurd that they make you laugh. But more often than not, they show harrowing and degrading situations.
As you throw back the countless messages so that they appear online, you begin to feel the power of cooperation and perseverance. The playful VR environment, with hand-drawn animation and 3D archive material, proves to be an inspiring narrative form.
