The fantastically acted Strange Way of Life lives up to its title as a revisionist western. With Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.
Pedro Almodóvar's new short film is a modern Western starring Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) and Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Before trilogy). Silva (Pascal) has taken 25 years to finally cross the desert to visit his old friend Jake (Hawke). Jake is now a sheriff and is about to apprehend the suspect in a murder case. The men think back to their young years in Mexico. Then they made plans for the future. When it becomes clear why Silva has made the journey through the desert now, the question is whether there is a future for them together.
Strange Way of Life premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. After The Human Voice with Tilda Swinton, this is Almodóvar's second English-language short film. The costume design was in the hands of fashion house Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, who is associated with the film as a co-producer.
