The film tells a compelling chapter in the life of top athlete Diana Nyad. After giving up marathon swimming in exchange for a career as a renowned sports journalist, Diana (Annette Bening, four-time Academy Award nominee) wants to complete the swim that has always occupied her at the age of 60: the journey from Cuba to Florida.
With a distance of 110 miles, it is also called the "Mount Everest" among swimming tours. Determined to become the first person to complete the swim without a protective cage against swimming sharks, Diana embarks on an exciting four-year journey with her best friend and coach Bonnie Stoll (two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster) and a dedicated sailing team.
The inspiring and exciting film is the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning documentary filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (Free Solo, The Rescue). Nyad is produced by Andrew Lazar, p.g.a. and Teddy Schwarzman, p.g.a. with a screenplay by Julia Cox and is based on the memoir "Find a Way" by Diana Nyad.
