Largely animated story about the homosexual Amin, who fleed Afghanistan in the 80s. Flee shows us the poor circumstances and lasting remnants of life as a second class citizen.
Nobody knows his exact story, not even his partner. Still, director Jonas Poher Rasmussen manages to get his schoolbuddy Amin talking about the road he traveled from fleeing Afghanistan in the 80s to living in Denmark now. With the promise that he can remain anonymous.
Rasmussen chose to largely animate the sometimes thrilling, sometimes moving story. In handmade 2D-animations he sketches Amin's journey through the no man's land of citizen and illegal, through corrupt Russian agents and inhumane people smugglers.
Other than that, Flee shows how humans are emotionally formed through these poor circumstances: hiding yourself does not end once you have the correct and legal papers. Amin, businessman and homosexual, was forced to create a false identity, which he now bravely attempts to deconstruct behind the safety of animations.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for Flee.
