Fresh from her studies, Samgyi returns to her hometown of Lhasa to make a film about her childhood, where a chance encounter with her childhood friend brings back long-forgotten memories.
At the centre of her film is her friendship with Lhamo—a childhood friend from whom she drifted apart—and the fragmented memories of her youth. When a chance encounter reunites her with Lhamo, long-forgotten memories come back to the surface.
Linka Linka is a gentle, sensitive coming-of-age film that marks the debut of a promising young filmmaker from Tibet. Delicately weaving Samgyi’s childhood and present-day self, the film follows her as she navigates friendship, growth, and loss, revisiting the memories she left behind. The breathtaking landscapes of Lhasa share the frame with its urban spaces as traditional Tibetan songs fold together with hip-hop and late-night parties. Ultimately, Linka Linka is a story of homecoming and belonging and all those questions about the places we call home.
