A highlight of Michael Mann's career, this quasi-documentary based on the thorny adventures of a whistleblower in the American tobacco industry.
Russell Crowe plays former cigarette scientist Jeffrey Wigand, an average man who burns under pressure. His sounding board is Al Pacino who serves as the news-eager producer Lowell Bergman of the renowned news show 60 Minutes. The Insider excels in terms of direction, cinematography and editing, but the focus lies with the sublime interplay of Crowe and Pacino. During Zomergasten, cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema (Interstellar, Oppenheimer) mentioned the enormous influence of The Insider on him and the film industry.
