Eyes Wide Shut

Cruise and Kidman, who were still married at the time, play a wealthy New York couple. Their marriage comes under pressure when the woman confesses at a dubious Christmas party that she was almost seduced into adultery. What follows, in this film adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's Traumnovelle, is the curious descent into the inner world of the man who is caught between reality and illusion, jealousy and obsession and struggles with his inner drives. Will he act out his erotic fantasies or keep them hidden deep inside?

Eyes Wide Shut is described as a mixture of dream worlds, seduction and fear captured in a lush oil painting. In preparing the production, Kubrick was inspired, among other things, by the paintings and sketches of Gustav Klimt.
