3D printing and laser cutting
Do you have questions about your 3D-design? Or do you need help turning your idea into a working prototype? Visit Smartlab!
Every Thursday evening, Smartlab staff will be present to help you get started. Together, we prepare your design for the 3D printer or laser cutter. We have two types of 3D printers. For high detail and small objects, we use our new Resin printer! For example for making board game pieces or Dungeons and Dragons characters. For all other 3D printing work, we have three reliable Prusa 3D printers. The laser cutter can be used to cut or engrave wood and acrylic in various colours and with a powerful laser beam, among other things.
Please make a reservation
The open walk-in is free of charge. However, to guarantee that we have time for you, reservations are required. Reservations can be made via this form.
Made a reservation? Please bring your files with you on a USB stick or e-mail them in advance to smartlab@forum.nl. A question about your project or our equipment can be send to the same e-mail address.
How does 3D printing work?
We look at your specific design and go through the process with you on how to make the move to the laser cutter or 3D printer. So that you understand what's possible (and not possible) and can use the devices even easier next time.
How does laser cutting work?
The preferred file type for laser cutting is DXF. Other file types are also possible, provided it is a vectorised file (this does not apply to photo engraving). Cutting or engraving materials other than wood or acrylic can be done in consultation with the employee.
Costs and more
Prusa 3D printer | Resin 3D printer | Laser cutter | |
Start-up costs | € 10,00 | € 15,00 | € 10,00 |
Printing / laser costs | €0,35 / meter filament PLA | €0,18 / ml | €0,70 / minute* |
Material costs | Included | Included | Acrylic 3mm: € 22 per plate, Triplex 4mm: € 7,20 per plate** |
Maximum size of design | Height x width x depth = 21x25x21 cm | Height x width x depth = 20 x 22 x 12 cm | Length x width = 60 x 40 cm |
* Laser costs depend on the surface and the amount of engraving versus cutting. Cutting and half-cutting (drawing) is often quick. For engraving large surfaces, the costs run up quickly.
** A full sheet of wood or acrylic is 60x40 cm. You pay proportionally less if you consume less.
We try to prepare the design for execution during the walk-in and together with you as much as possible, . If it is nevertheless necessary to work on the design outside the open walk-in, we will charge an hourly fee of €50.
The total costs are calculated in advance and agreed with the employee.
There is no charge for a short consultation, we are happy to give you a push in the right direction!
