During WWII, a Jewish boy lives with his foster mother in Eastern Europe.
After she dies, he must fend for himself. Hungry and cold, the child goes from village to village, where he is abused and chased away by the primitive population. On his journey, he witnesses the terrifying violence of brutal Russian and German soldiers. By the end of the war, the rough years have left their mark on the boy, leaving him forever changed.
