Friday 15 July | "We zijn in de app gelogeerd!" Dutch history and culture in expressions and proverbs
This is really a program for the curious! Learning Dutch sometimes seems like a battle because the language contains hundreds of expressions and proverbs that cannot be understood in a logical way. During this morning you will learn about Dutch history and culture through expressions and proverbs that you can regularly hear and read.
Friday July 22 | Cycling and walking excursion to the Westpark, a piece of nature on the outskirts of Groningen (departure by bike from Forum Groningen)
We are going for a walk through the Westpark, a special nature reserve on the west side of the city. A guide tells you about the nature and history of the park. We walk on hidden paths and along the way we can just meet grouse and pigs. At the end we visit Garden in the City. This is a special garden, nursery, stage and campsite. You can buy organically grown plants and you can also camp there. At the end of the excursion you can drink coffee on the terrace of Tuin in de Stad.
The walk is about four kilometers long. It is good to wear good, sturdy shoes. And if you have binoculars, bring them!
Friday August 5 | "De moeheid in een bootje" - Dutch poetry in readable language
Reading 'real' Dutch literature is a goal of many foreign people who learn Dutch. But literary novels or even short stories are often full of difficult words and it is no fun having to look in the dictionary every minute. During this morning you will meet some Dutch writers who wrote their poems in relatively simple words, such as Hans Lodeizen, Rutger Kopland, Judith Herzberg and Jan Hanlo.
Friday 12 August | "Ik ben zo blij, zó blij..." Iconic Dutch music
If you tell a Dutch person over 40: "Ik ben zo blij, zó blij..." then you have a good chance that he/she will finish the sentence with: ... that my nose is in front and not aside." These are the lyrics of an old but still well-known carnival song. On this morning you will hear some of these songs, the makers and the background. So that you can sing along in the future!
Friday 19 August | "A nature reserve close to home" Cycling and walking excursion to the Onlanden (departure from Forum Groningen)
People who live in Groningen often say that it is nice that you can get out of the city and into nature so quickly. A very interesting but not so well-known nature reserve is close to the city: the Onlanden. There is a lot of space for the water in this area. Some parts are even swampy. You can see many types of birds. The otter and the beaver are also present.
We cycle to De Onlanden (about seven kilometers). There we start with coffee at De Onlanderij and then we take a walk of about five kilometers through the area accompanied by a nature guide. If you have binoculars, bring them with you. And wear good walking shoes.
